Staff Spotlight: Brian O’Mahony

George Barnes 22nd January 2024

Our staff spotlight series continues as we welcome Brian O’Mahony to Roffey Park Institute, who joins the sales and marketing team as Client Relationship Manager based out of our Dublin office. Brian was born in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary Ireland which is a town of 20,000 people in the south of Ireland.

Brian went to university in University College Dublin (UCD) to study history and achieved a Masters in Early Modern History. He told us “I did not effectively use my degree in later life, however, I did meet my wife while we were both working as tutors at UCD!” After Brian finished that tutoring job, he moved back home for a few years to work in the family business, a travel agency, with his parents and brother.

From there, Brian got a job with the Irish Management Institute (IMI) where he worked for 14 years. Brian explained, “In the IMI, I worked on all aspects of the business, including Open Enrolment programmes, accredited Graduate programmes and for 9 years as a Client Relationship Manager in IMI’s Tailored Solutions business focused on designing, developing and delivering high-quality programmes for my clients. I worked with a wide range of clients but with a primary focus on managing IMI’s partnership with its largest clients, including Glanbia, Kerry Group, Enterprise Ireland, CRH, Brown Thomas Arnotts, Datalex, Bord Gais, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Musgrave. In my time at IMI, I also completed an MBS in Business which included diplomas in Management, Executive Coaching and Organisational Development.”

Two years ago, Brian moved to EY Ireland where he worked as a Director in EY’s People Advisory Services team, and his role within EY was to lead on developing EY Ireland’s leadership learning and development practice. Brian’s focus was on working with a wide range of existing EY clients across the consulting and wider business, as well as developing new relationships with great organisations and sectors to partner on designing, developing and delivering world-class leadership programmes, from graduate programmes to senior leadership development.

Outside of the workplace, Brian told us that he is a family man and that he has a wide variety of interests that include watching and playing football. He told us, “I am married to my wife Jenny and we have a wonderful two-year-old son called Conor. My parents are now happily retired and I have three older brothers. I love watching and playing football – I am a lifelong Liverpool fan and get all my weekly exercise by playing 6-a-side games with friends every Wednesday night.” Brian also told us that he is an avid television watcher with a particular love for quiz shows which satisfies his competitive streak. And finally, his abiding passion is for food – “I love talking and thinking about it just as much as eating it!”

We are delighted that Brian has joined our team and are excited to see what the future holds, especially for our relatively new but very integral team in Ireland as part of Roffey Park Institute Europe. Brian told us, “I am very much looking forward to joining Roffey Park as I see that there is a huge opportunity to develop the organisation in Ireland by leveraging my experience and network as well as harnessing the talent and resources that the organisation already has in place. My core values in my work life include contributing to the success of others so I am hoping to contribute to the individual development and successes of my colleagues, Roffey Park as a whole, and of course to the achievements of our valued clients.”
